Sharon Rowe, Founder & CEO of ECOBAGS® with a designer and customer Tamar Wong of Hello Happy Town

Here at ECOBAGS® we stand for something – we don’t make reusable bags or try our best to live a clean and green life because it’s a buzzword or it’s trending, it’s something we feel deep within us. ECOBAGS® has been a leader in the eco friendly, fair trade, fair labor sector since 1989, when Sharon Rowe, our CEO, had the vision to “clean up the planet, one bag at a time.”™

But let’s be honest – reusable totes and shopping bags are everywhere now, the market is saturated, and chances are the ones you own you’ve gotten for free with some sort of purchase or from an event you attended.

So, what makes us different? When the time comes for you to choose a bag for an event, or when you make the choice to use less plastic, why choose ECOBAGS®? Well, besides the fact that Sharon Rowe pioneered the industry with ECOBAGS®, we also manufacture our bags in a way that is ethical, sustainable, and yes, affordable.

Our bags are third party certified fair wage, fair labor. We also hold the SA8000 certification, and are a certified B Corp. But what does this mean?:

Fair Wage standards mandate that wages and benefits for a standard working week meet, at a minimum, national legal standards or industry benchmark standards, whichever is higher. This higher standard is meant to cover the basic living needs of the employee and allow for some discretionary income. The products manufactured by Eco-Bags Products, Inc. are certified Fair Wage by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). You will find this certification printed on the caretag of all ECOBAGS® brand products.

Fair Labor monitoring investigates social conditions of manufacturing sites including the safety and hygiene of facilities and prohibits excessive working hours, discriminatory practices and child labor. The products manufactured by Eco-Bags Products, Inc. are certified Fair Labor by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). You will find this certification printed on the caretag of all ECOBAGS® brand products.

SA8000 is an auditable certification standard that encourages organizations to develop, maintain, and apply socially acceptable practices in the workplace. It was developed in 1997 by Social Accountability International, formerly the Council on Economic Priorities, by an advisory board consisting of trade unions, NGOs, civil society organizations and companies.

B Corporations are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

So, when you buy a shopping tote, produce bag, bulk bag, or bread bag from ECOBAGS® you know you’re not just doing something good for the planet, but you’re also doing something good for the people on it.
