It’s wedding season! Love it or hate it, it’s here. I personally love weddings, and will go to any and all that I am invited to. Although weddings typically aren’t the most eco friendly events that doesn’t mean you have to betray your values to attend them.

One of the aspects of weddings that I wrestle with is what to gift to the bride and groom – I don’t want to just give them more stuff, more clutter and mess to fill their lives with; and I strive to give them something quite personal – something that says “I know you two, I love you two, and I want you to enjoy this special thing together.”

So, here are a few quick tips on what to get the happy couples – gifts that they won’t put on a coffee table or mantelpiece and quickly forget about, gifts that they won’t get 5 of and return the other 4, gifts that won’t gather dust in their cabinets and are only taken out for one special dinner a year; gifts that are perhaps a bit kinder to our earth while also being more special for the couple.

  • Buy them an experience. Whether it’s a wine tasting in your local area, a dinner at their favorite restaurant, or even an excursion on their honeymoon it’s a gift that won’t go to waste and one the couple is sure to enjoy together and remember forever.
  • Art! Buy them something beautiful to furnish their new – or existing – home that will make their space a little bit brighter, and they can enjoy every time they see it.
  • Consider buying them a nice bottle of wine that will age well, so that they can have it on their fifth – or tenth – anniversary!
  • Cash. I know, it sometimes seems impersonal to give cash to a friend or family member, but every new couple is happy to get some extra cash.

Do you have any tips on what to gift the bride and groom on their big day?
