It’s wedding season! Love it or hate it, it’s here. I personally love weddings, and will go to any and all that I am invited to. Although weddings typically aren’t the most eco friendly events that doesn’t mean you have to betray your values to attend them.
One of the aspects of weddings that I wrestle with is what to gift to the bride and groom – I don’t want to just give them more stuff, more clutter and mess to fill their lives with; and I strive to give them something quite personal – something that says “I know you two, I love you two, and I want you to enjoy this special thing together.”
So, here are a few quick tips on what to get the happy couples – gifts that they won’t put on a coffee table or mantelpiece and quickly forget about, gifts that they won’t get 5 of and return the other 4, gifts that won’t gather dust in their cabinets and are only taken out for one special dinner a year; gifts that are perhaps a bit kinder to our earth while also being more special for the couple.
- Buy them an experience. Whether it’s a wine tasting in your local area, a dinner at their favorite restaurant, or even an excursion on their honeymoon it’s a gift that won’t go to waste and one the couple is sure to enjoy together and remember forever.
- Art! Buy them something beautiful to furnish their new – or existing – home that will make their space a little bit brighter, and they can enjoy every time they see it.
- Consider buying them a nice bottle of wine that will age well, so that they can have it on their fifth – or tenth – anniversary!
- Cash. I know, it sometimes seems impersonal to give cash to a friend or family member, but every new couple is happy to get some extra cash.
